Milk & Honey Cafe

Lunch, to go. BLT: delicious, but without the toothpicks holding it together, it was hard to eat. Potato chips: good. Banana toffee muffin: good, but too rich ... got kinda sick off of it.

Wow, this place was insanely crowded for a weekday afternoon.

Flo

Brunch. One strawberry-and-banana pancake: good. One mixed berry French toast slice: very good. Chicken sausge: good not great.

Service was OK - forgot to remove sour cream from breakfast burrito. Maybe she should have written our order down.

Semiramis

Dinner. Hummus: delicious, best ever (and cheap)! Free pitas: good but not mind-blowing. Falafel: very good (and cheap). French fries w/ garlic dipping paste: good, slightly spicy, very filling, kind of like yucca (and cheap). Mixed grill (chicken kabob, beef kabob, ground lamb kabob): chicken was a little bland and dry, beef was chewy and dry, ground lamb was absolutely delicious!

What a great place, very friendly service, cute on the inside, and very cheap prices. Another great recommendation from EatChicago.net (3-for-3 now).

Dave's Italian Kitchen

Dinner. Caesar salad: quite mediocre. Chicken parmesan: pretty good, two nice cutlets (or two small breast halves), nice and crispy. With rotini and red sauce: OK, but nothing too special.

Hostess was grumpy. Waiter was stoned. Service was a tad slow. But it was a good place. Crowded when we left. Huge portions.

Sultan's Market

Big Bowl

Dinner. Lettuce wraps: good filling, but the lettuce was disgustingly wet. "Chef's choice" stir fry, w/ chicken, w/ kung pao sauce, w/ rice: best thing I've had there, great variety of veggies.

Northcenter Ribfest

Lunch. Pulled pork BBQ sandwich from Celtic (something): very good, needed extra sauce. French fries from Celtic (something): good but not great, just Ore-Ida krinkle-cut fries. Pulled pork BBQ sandwich from Gale Street Inn: very delicious pork, but the bun was horrendous.

West Town Tavern

Dinner. Free roll: warm, with delicious whipped butter. Crispy shrimp spring rolls: good but not great. Mushroom soup: pretty good, not at all mushroomy. Calamari: deliciously not-rubbery. Trout: OK. Fingerling potatoes, tomatoes, and honey-cured bacon: delicious, the best part of the meal.

Pretty busy in there, pretty noisy. Lots of kids. Crazy hostess. Crazy.

Hilary's Urban Eatery

Dinner. Side salad with weird separated dressing: not very good. Fried chicken: good, crispy, but bland and got cold fast. Mac and cheese: OK but not great -- really congealed. Green beans with almonds: good. Chicken fajitas: pretty good.

Hilary's Urban Eatery
1500 W. Division St.

Bandera

Lunch. Cheeseburger: OK, didn't like the "special sauce" on the top bun ... not as good as J. Alexander (or Houston's). Fries: great as always.

Bandera

Pizza Metro

Dinner, carry-out. Pepperoni and sausage: good. Pepperoni and onion: good.

Again, the guy who answers the phone was very very curt. And we had to wait FOREVER for the pizza -- I think they put it in the oven when we arrived. But they said on the phone (I think) that it would only take 10 minutes!

Cafe Laguardia

Dinner. Fried yucca: good, filling. Queso: filled with meat, and served with warm tortillas -- you could practically make a small enchilada meal out of this, and it wasn't too bad (very heavy). Fried pork medallions: OK, kind of fatty. Garlic chicken: pretty good.

Charlie's on Leavitt

Dinner. Corn soup: just OK, watery. Lamb sausage: just OK, too much like breakfast sausage. Pork tenderloin: delicious. Grouper: bland. Fries: pretty good, but can't quite compare to mk. Apple caramel tort: delicious.

Hostess was pleasant and gracious. Server was just OK, looked at us crazy for not boozing up. It was quiet when we got there, and surprisingly half-full for 6:30. When we left after 8:00 it was packed and very loud.

Great room, good menu, food was good, some things better than others, but obviously well-made.

Osteria Via Stato

Dinner. Free bread: very good, and nice and fluffy and warm ... but cooled off and then was just OK. Smoked salmon: pretty good, surprisingly. Fried onions: tasty. Other antipasti: good, but I've forgotten them. Long flat noodles with sausage and red sauce: good. Orechetti with oil and other stuff: good. Filet with salt and olive oil: good.

The "communal" tables stink. Should request a normal table. The crowd at this joint is crazy -- maybe mostly tourists staying at the attached hotel? Our server was a little weird, but fine.

The all-you-can-eat starters were better than the fancy meat entrees.

Osteria Via Stato
620 N. State St.

Coco Pazzo Cafe

Dinner. Free bread: pretty good. Seven vegetable salad: good (had garbanzo beans), and very filling. Mixed greens with pine nuts and grapes salad: good. Lasanga: pretty good, but not as good as Cook's Illustrated's. Rigatoni with sausage and peas: pretty good. Roasted vegetables entree: not bad, a little pricey.

The "half order" of pasta for only $8.50 was a great bargain. This was a nice place to eat, would be nice to dine outside, except it was raining.

Coco Pazzo Cafe
636 N St. Clair St.
312-664-2777

Aladdin Falafel House

Lunch. Hummus and pitas: pretty good. Jerusalem salad: just OK, watery. Falafel vegeterian pita sandwich: pretty good, especially with the white sauce.

The guy gave us the hummus for free -- nice!
